Into the arms of safety from the halls of several HIGH KILL SHELTERS. These puppies and dogs are driven by great people who do this for the dogs only, since there is no paycheck at the end of their drive. Each group will take a leg of the trip stopping for potty breaks, water and a short walk. Handing them off to the next group they take pictures to remember the ones that were saved this week, along with a moment of thought for those that didn't get to make the journey knowing they won't be there when they get back.
Thru thunderstorms, blizzards, sweltering heat they continue on, knowing at the end of the trip there is hope for them finding a forever home
a gentle sweet cat neutered and de-clawed, obviously someone's pet at one time, trapped and on his way to animal control, for visiting someone's yard and bird feeder each morning,,,
a litter of tiny kittens so affectionate and social already, someone had to have raised them and shown affection, found out in remote wooded area dumped,, not born of a feral cat living there, they had to have been driven and purposely abandoned there....
a stunning pure black lab, social, loving with people and dogs, whose beloved owner passed away and no one in the family of survivors wanted this dog, not even in honor of their departed father, ,,,
two rambunctious beagle brothers allowed to free roam and get into trouble, picked up by animal control, and knowing they were there, not re claimed by owners,, dont want to pay money for these dogs release when beagles are in abundance down here !!! one of the brothers so scared at the pound, he shook and trembled the whole time, until the day they were pulled to safety and put on the transport north,,,,
over bred by greedy profiteers , tiny Chihuahuas so uncertain of their fate until rescuers got them out of harms way ..
these are some of the stories of the animals in these photos that went north yesterday,,,,
and all the sending rescuers/shelters in Southern Illinois continue to do something every week,, many are suffering chronic illnesses, or their family members are,, everyone struggles to meet financial demands of rescue,,,, many are cashing in gold scraps to rescue one more animal,,, many are getting mired down in politics of animal control,,
and all of the receving rescues North,,, you still persevere and take someone or many someones each week,, I see some of my animals you have taken this summer still there, waiting for adoption, that you took weeks, months ago,, still, you take more and find a spot,,, ONE lone kitten,,, one dog I begged Sally to post one more time,,, and it worked..
to this whole group, when I ask myself over and over each week, as I never get hardened to the cruelty I see, I ask WHERE IS HUMANITY???????!!!!!!!!! and it is here that I see it every week, in all your names, taking in all these new faces,,,
thank you all,,, Happy St Francis of Assisi Feast week and month of October,,,

FPALR SAVED THIS ONE
TWO PUPS UPPER RIGHT RESCUED FPALR
At one point and time everyone always asks us where and how we get the dogs we rescue since we don't accept Owner Surrenders. Well below are just a few pictures of how the dogs arrive and a short note from one of the drivers of the transports. These great people do NOT get paid for their time nor gas. They do it for the love of the animals. Every week shelters like FPALR are emailed a list of dogs that are available and on the list to be euthanized if not rescued. It is never easy to just take one or two while you know the others may not make it. But we here at FPALR are limited to the amount of dogs we can have at the shelter, so we can only take in what we can manage or if a foster home opens up. Please take a look at these faces and realize that all of them ,are now all safe and sound but many of their friends didn't make it out. If you could help by fostering, we would be able to take one more in. Also when in your travels if you see someone with a bumper sticker or sign that says animal transport, give them the thumbs up, they could be driving your new best friend.
who, in this email list, can say they arent experiencing HARD TIMES in R E S C U E and all that goes with it,,, probably no one,,, but yet, every week, you all work and sacrifice to help as much as you can and here is the result, on their way to finding their second chances , new homes or maybe very first homes!
to all my fellow volunteer/rescue comrades down here, who put yourself through the trials and pain to save SOMEONE or many someones,,, I see the weary look in your eyes, along with happiness, every week as you send off your cherished animals...and I know what kind of week you put in prior, to accomplish this..
to all our receiving shelters and rescues up there, we cant possibly know what your daily lives are like caring for our precious ones when you receive them, until adopted, but you can be sure we DO appreciate you more than you will ever know for taking them,,,
to all the drivers here and there, whether the long haul or shorter trips to deliver, we value you and your energy to get this done every week, in all weather and traffic situations,,,,
all the Placement coordinators, ringleaders and Transport coordinators spending untold hours on the computer and phone, you dont hear it often enough, but i am sure I speak for all, we are grateful for your endless work and donation of time,,, thank you Julie for tackling this every Monday night,,,and Sally for non stop posting and last calls....
too much time lapses, before "hi, how are you doing and thanks again" kind of emails are sent and received,,,
consider yourselves thanked and appreciated,,,
sincerely,
