We are in need of foster homes. In order to keep saving dogs we are asking if there is anyone that could possibly take in a foster dog for a period of time. These are dogs that are in need of some one on one attention or just perhaps sometime away from the shelter. They have been thru so much before their arrival to FPALR and some just need some down time. So if totally owning another dog is not in your plans could you possibly just open your door and hearts to taking one in on a temporary basis ?
Getting married?

Now you can help FPALR help homeless animals by registering with the I Do Foundation's Donation Registry! They make it easy for your guests to make donations in lieu of gifts, and there are many options for couples, including charitable wedding favors. For further details on these cost free services, check out: http://www.idofoundation.org

EVERYONE:
Guess what? Jasmine and Murphy have a new home! You know the movie "Field of Dreams" where the baseball player walks out, looks around and asks, "Am I in heaven?" The answer to that is, "No, you're in Iowa!" When Jasmine and Murphy ran out to their new one-acre fenced-in, wooded backyard, looked around at the lake they'll be swimming in, and saw their new "mom", they must have thought they were in doggie heaven indeed...but it's in McHenry, Illinois.

How can we ever thank wonderful Carole Potts for taking both dogs together and giving them a real home with human contact and kindness for the rest of their lives? These two Labs were living alone in a small apartment for the past month, seeing no one except the father of the owner when he took them for a short walk and fed them. Now they are part of a loving family with lots of sons and daughters and grandchildren and "grandLabs" to play with and share hugs.

I want to thank every one of you for caring about these dogs and forwarding my emails to fellow animal lovers in quest of a home for Jasmine and Murphy. We actually ended up with FOUR offers for homes around Thanksgiving (THANK YOU!!!) but the Monday before Thanksgiving, when I heard from no one, I called Ileana Pullos at Fortunate Pooches and Lab Rescue. This kind lady gave me the name of someone who was looking for TWO ADULT LABS who needed a home. Carole lost her beloved yellow Lab named Sadie a few months ago. So...one thing led to another, we did a home visit, and everyone fell in love! Jasmine and Murphy are infatuated with their new home, yard, owner and extended family...and they actually slept in bed with Carole their first night home!

(If you are looking for a Lab or Lab mix, or want to give a contribution to a great rescue organization that's running on a shoestring and has a heart of gold, please look at their web site www.fortunatelabrescue.org .)

There’s a touching story by Loren Eisley about a man walking along a beach picking up stranded starfish and tossing them back into the ocean. A stranger says to him, “Why are you wasting your time throwing them back? There’s thousands of starfish lying on the beach. What difference are you making?” The man picked up a starfish, threw it gently into the water and said, “It makes a difference to this one.”

THANK YOU, EVERYONE, for caring about animals. We can and DO make a difference for every dog and cat we try to help in this world. Have a wonderful holiday season!

Cheers,

Barb

“I adopted your dog today
The one you left at the pound
The one you had for several years…
And no longer wanted around.
I adopted your dog today…
Do you know he’s lost weight?
So you know he’s scared and
Depressed…
And has lost all faith?
I adopted your dog today…
He had fleas and a cold.
But don’t you worry none
You’ve unburdened your load…
I adopted your dog today…
Were you having a baby?  Were you
Moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies, or
Was there no reason he couldn’t stay?
I adopted your dog today…
He does not play or eat much,
He’s very depressed
But one day he will learn again to
Trust…
I adopted your dog today…
And here he will stay.
He’s found his forever home
And a warm bed to lay.
I adopted your dog today…
I will give him all he needs
Patience, love, security,
Understanding,
Hopefully he will forget your selfish
Deed.”

Unique looking and a talking dog!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Seeking self-motivated, dedicated volunteers to join our team!

We are always in need of foster homes, adoption event coordinators, adoption event dog handlers, transport volunteers, communication volunteers (returning phone calls, e-mails), mailing list maintenance, event planning, and much more.

We are especially in need of volunteers to join our fundraising team, and those who have experience with media and/or community relations to help with promotion and publicity.

If you love dogs and have a few hours a week, won't you consider joining the FPALR team?  Please send an e-mail to
volunteer@fortunatelabrescue.org and someone will contact you.  Must be 18 (or have parental permission).

Your Donations Allow Us To Save Lives!

Every day we get calls asking us to save abandoned Labrador Retrievers, labrador mixes, and other sweet dogs from certain death in overcrowded shelters and animal control agencies. But we cannot save these wonderful dogs without your help.

Many of the dogs we rescue come from the shelters in pretty bad shape.  In addition to basic veterinary care (vaccinations, spaying/neutering), FPALR often must provide very expensive treatment for heartworm disease ($400-$800), dental care ($200-$600), eye surgery ($200-$600), orthopedic surgery ($2,000-$10,000), pneumonia ($1,000-$5,000) and parvo virus ($600-$4,000). These are just a few conditions treated on a regular basis.

Veterinary costs are the biggest drain on our resources. We are grateful for your monetary donations in any amount and promise to spend every penny wisely and for the care of our dogs.

We believe that no animal, regardless of how severely it has been neglected, deserves to be ignored and destroyed. They all deserve a second chance.  Thank you for your generosity. We couldn't save these precious lives without you!

Sponsor a lab!  It's easy!

You can sponsor a lab in someone's name as a gift, make a memorial dedication in the name of a deceased pet that you loved, or you can simply sponsor a lab because you love dogs!
